A few years ago, I was sitting near my Swedish great grandmother’s bedside. She had lived 105+ years, had raised eleven children as a young widow, and was such a wise and giving lady; pioneer stock. I asked her, “Grandma Ida, after all your years, what is the most important thing you have learned?” She said, “Always be kind and loving.” (Reneé Nañez’s reflections)
Lately, there has been a lot of discussion about kindness, or the lack of it, in our increasingly polarized society. What if we all decided to make kindness a top priority? What would that choice mean to our communities?
Getting involved in your local community foundation is a great way to find out! Community foundations serve as conduits for planned acts of kindness, gathering compassionate people connected to the community who act upon local needs to inspire positive change.
“Colton and I enjoy going to play groups held by the Family Resource Center! It is a good way for us to interact with other parents and children. Colton has had the opportunity to tie dye, build a bird house and go fishing. He always has fun and he loves the snacks!” (Sam Hughes)
Burnett County Family Resource Center summer activities made possible by a NACF grant.
For six years now, Northwest Alliance Community Foundation (NACF) has been working in Polk and Burnett Counties and has partnered with volunteers, donors, and area nonprofits to make a lasting impact. We have used your generous donations to award nearly $30,500 in grants, helping 32 organizations continue and expand services to their communities. This has been a gratifying mission of the NACF, but the challenges are great.

We believe in the combined power of donors and volunteers to address the issues confronting our communities. There is power in unity!
